Garment Technologist
The Role As a Garment Technologist, you will be the bridge between design, production, and quality assurance.
You will oversee the technical development of garments from initial concept through to bulk production, ensuring fit, function, construction, and compliance are met. Key Responsibilities
Work closely with designers, merchandisers, and factories to develop garments from initial sample to final production. Conduct fit sessions and provide detailed feedback on fit, construction, and finish. Produce and update technical packs/spec sheets, ensuring all garment details are clear and accurate. Approve fabrics, trims, and components in line with brand standards and compliance requirements.
Ensure garments meet performance, quality, and safety standards (including relevant legislation and testing requirements). Troubleshoot production issues and provide technical solutions to factories and suppliers. Monitor critical path deadlines to ensure on-time delivery. Maintain excellent communication with overseas suppliers and manufacturers, ensuring clear guidance and follow-up. Support continuous improvement in product quality, sustainability, and efficiency.
Skills & Experience Proven experience as a Garment Technologist within fashion, apparel, or textiles. Strong knowledge of garment construction, fabrics, trims, and manufacturing processes. Experience working across multiple product categories (e.g., womenswear, menswear, childrenswear, sportswear).
Excellent understanding of fit, grading, pattern cutting, and sizing standards. Familiarity with compliance standards (e.g., REACH, CPSIA, flammability, wash care). Proficiency in creating and updating technical packs/specifications (e.g., Excel, Illustrator, PLM systems). Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal teams and overseas factories. Detail-oriented, highly organised, and able to manage multiple projects at once.
